Today, new and exciting questions are being asked. Why do koalas, which can live for over 200 years, so rarely get cancer, and can we learn anything from it? Can algae, bacteria or benthic animals give us new antibiotics in a time of increasing resistance? What happens when new technology makes it possible to explore deeper parts of the ocean than ever before? In this event, we explore the ocean's pharmacy: what kind of medicines we have already taken from the sea, and what researchers hope to find in the years to come. Historically, marine organisms have provided us with important medicines, often after researchers have discovered very special properties in animals and microorganisms that live in extreme conditions. These questions, and much more, are at the center when we gather for a professional and engaging evening about medicines from the sea.
