The quarter final between Argentina and England during the 1986 World Cup is remembered for Diego Maradona scoring the opening goal with his hand and a little assistance from God, as well as the greatest goal ever. This is just one of the many reasons that this game has gone down in history as the most controversial and heavily-debated football matches of all time.
In this entertaining documentary, several of the players who were on the pitch that day, offer enlightening perspectives on the match – ranging from pre-game rituals to the legacy of the Falklands War. THE MATCH is a captivating and insightful film about football, international relations and modern myths.
At the screening Monday 19 October, there will be an introduction to THE MATCH by Ernesto Semán from the Department of Foreign Languages at the University of Bergen.
BIFF screening at Tivoli, Det Akademiske Kvarter. Film starts at 14:30. Runtime: 91 minutes. The listed end time is calculated from the runtime and excludes any introduction or discussion.
